Trauma-Proof Your Kids is a 4 week online trauma prevention training for parents, teachers, and healthy communities.

 

The purpose of this course is to equip people who care for and work with children with a practical understanding of how and why children suffer from trauma. With this understanding, you become more capable to effectively and compassionately support children’s recovery, resilience, and flourishing health.

What you'll learn: 

This class will equip you with a practical, body-based understanding of what trauma is, how to recognize its signs and symptoms, as well as hands-on activities and skills to prevent and address trauma in children.

Week 1 and 3 are for adults only, to educate and equip you with an in-depth understanding of how and why trauma shows up in children’s bodies, behaviors, and lives.

Week 2 and 4 are open to the whole family! Bring your kids! These classes are family friendly opportunities to explore playful, body-oriented techniques and skills for trauma resolution.

Class format:

Classes are held live on Zoom Video. Each class is recorded and sent to participants to watch at your convenience if you can’t attend live. 

 

Class 1 and 3 are for adults only, and are 60 minutes. Class 2 and 4 are for adults and children, and are 40 minutes.

 

Weekly class breakdown:

WEEK 1 – SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF CHILDHOOD TRAUMA 

(Adults only; 60 min)

  • 6 common sources of childhood trauma

  • Signs and symptoms of childhood trauma by age group

  • Trauma implications of the global pandemic protocols, lockdown, and school policies

 

WEEK 2 – HEALING TRAUMA THROUGH MOVEMENT 

(Adults and Children; 40 min)

  • Somatic strategies for nervous system health

  • Self-administered percussive body tapping for kids and adults (suitable for all age groups)

  • Family and classroom strategies for movement, play, song, touch, and vocalization

 

WEEK 3 – EMOTIONAL FIRST AID FOR TRAUMA PREVENTION

(Adults only; 60 min)

  • The importance of self-regulation

  • How to develop a calm adult presence by tracking your own sensations

  • Sensory exercises for self-regulation

  • Attuning to your child through sensory language

 

WEEK 4 – HEALING TRAUMA THROUGH PLAY

(Adults and Children; 40 min)

  • 5 Principles to guide children’s play toward trauma resolution

  • Rhymes, Stories, and Animal Imagery for healing trauma (suitable for infant to school-aged children)

  • Family and classroom strategies for movement, play, song, touch, and vocalization
